Johnson, and Josh Kaufman - convened in an Irish pub alongside beloved collaborators JT Bates (drums), Cameron Ralston (bass), and recording engineer Bella Blasko. Also recorded in that pub, which provided the formal space in which Kaufman, Mitchell, Johnson and co. would channel the overall fivesome's melancholic folk rock vision into sound, this rather long but suitably meandering record recalls a fusion of the neofolk style of Bob Dylan, the vocal inexclusivity of Massive Attack and structural nonconformity of The Microphones. The result is a distinct sense of grace, and a reminder that life is most lived when things aren't so perfect.
