About Lanita

Lanita Numina is one of the middle sisters of the six well-known desert artists. She has two brothers; her father has passed on, and her mum still paints from time to time. Like her sisters, Lanita went to primary school on Stirling Station near Tennant Creek. Like her sisters and mother, she comes from a long line of desert painters of contemporary Aboriginal art and the dot-dot central desert movement.

Lanita lived with her mother and aunties on Stirling Station near Ti Tree. She started painting later than her older sisters. Lanita was taught by her older sisters and other sisters, but she was surrounded by her well-renowned painter aunties, Gloria and Kathleen Petyarre, who are well-established artists in Alice Springs.

Lanita primarily lives with her sisters in Darwin and travels home to visit her mother, Barbara Price Mtjimbana, or to bring her mother to Darwin to visit them all.

Aboriginal women's ceremonies, also known as Awelye, are sacred rituals involving body painting, singing, and dancing. Women paint their bodies with designs made from ochre, charcoal, and ash using a flat stick called a typale. The designs are related to a specific dreaming and can include symbols that indicate the time of year, the woman's social ranking, and the subject of the ceremony.

Women sing songs that tell the stories of their ancestors' journeys and pass on knowledge about desert survival, bush tucker, and medicines. They may also dance and move through the sand to create a symbolic pathway. Awelye ceremonies are performed to show respect for the country and the Dreamtime stories that belong there and demonstrate responsibility for the health and well-being of the community.

Awelye ceremonies are a longer process that can occur over several years. Other aspects of the ceremonies include learning about ceremonial bathing and being separated from the community for extended periods.

High on Tropes and Satisfaction
Format: Kindle
This is a great Romantasy book full of action, adventure, and everything you look for in this genre. I won’t lie: it does kinda feel like the author found every common trope from every successful book of this kind and threw them all into this novel. But if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Especially in romance, there’s a large audience who has specific expectations, and they want them every time. Nothing wrong with that and many times I’m one of them. I have no idea what defines a spoiler honestly, so spoiler alert!!!!!!! Tropes include: Only one bed at the inn/bar Dissatisfaction with life before hunk appears Lost royalty The chosen one Montage of dress up time followed by shocked hunk Forbidden romance between two from rival peoples Power that cannot be controlled, simply guided/asked Gathering intel at the inn/bar FMC who knows how to fight/use weapons well There’s probably more but no need to list them all. Good story and I would recommend!

Good start to a series
Format: Kindle
I delayed reading the series for reasons I don’t remember. But my TBR list is huge so I thought I’d take a shot of this and I was pleasantly surprised. I didn’t think the blurb about it was anything special. But it was a very good book. It took some interesting twists and turns. I am so glad the second book is already out. Because I would not have waited patiently. Very slow burn but good storyline. 🔥🔥/5

A good read
Format: Kindle
Multiple points of view. 3 Alpha men and an Omega male. She is a Beta in training for a new program placing betas in Alpha/Omega packs. Mila is only doing the program for the money to take care of her dad. She wasn't expecting to fall for a pack but when she sees this packs Omega she is done for. There is just something about him. His Alphas are good looking as well. Too bad she is hiding a secret and their government is acting shady. I liked it and can't wait to see where their story goes.

Slightly repetitive but I did love some things
Format: Kindle
I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading. It was repetitive at times as well as struggled with telling not showing. So we didn’t always feel like we were experiencing things with the main character. There were also some plot holes but they may still be answered in part 2. Now this isn’t to be said I didn’t enjoy parts of the story. I loved the almost instant love between Mila and Oliver. And how he started changing around her.

delightful read
Format: Kindle
What a delightful read. The characters are awesome, the plot was so good, I loved it. I was intrigued and it kept me wanting more. Told in multiple pov, the book sucks you in and doesn’t let go. I cannot wait to read the next book.
