Hackberry Bowl Blank Hk-440 3" x 6" x 8" 3.3 lbs. This is an irregularly shaped quarter-log of slightly spalted Texas Hackberry. It has very pretty grain that is mostly straight to slightly curving. There are some eye-catching black line spalting fronts visible in the blank, gently cross-cutting the grain. The colors are a cool gray-brown, with darker brown to black spalting features. This block has only part of its bark -- some has fallen off. You can turn a barkless natural edge bowl from this blank. Hackberry is not a very hard wood and tends to be fibrous, so sharp tools are most effective. Spalted, Hackberry can be a beautiful wood and is well suited for decorative turnings. However, I recommend that you do not choose Hackberry for any projects requiring heavy use (such as utility bowls, knife handles, game calls, etc.) unless you have plans on some type of "hardening" procedure. I also recommend that you take light cuts with sharp tools to avoid the tear-out problems common with spalted woods. This blank does have some minor drying cracks that you will likely want to fill or reinforce with CA glue prior to turning. This is a GREEN to partially air-dried bowl blank, meaning that it still retains a lot of its original moisture from when it was a living tree. It has been well-sealed on end-grain surfaces with Anchor Seal and is in the process of slowly drying. It has been heat-treated to eliminate any gnawing critters. It was measured at ~25% MC in May 2022. If you need a current moisture content, please message us and we'll check its status for you. About the Tree This Texas-grown Hackberry tree was removed from a Brangus cattle ranch in Pattison, Texas in 2021. Hackberry is a common fenceline tree in Texas, and it tends to disrupt the fence as it grows. This particular tree was removed by the rancher when it interfered with his fenceline. It was saved from the rancher's burn pile and carefully sealed and dried. It was milled in early 2022, and it is now ready for a trip to your shop for the next stage in its life. We hope you will turn it into a cherished keepsake. |

Not my favorite by her

I have to say that Carley Fortune can write a really beautiful love story. I enjoyed this one but not nearly as much as This Summer Will be Different.
Sam is absolutely precious and his brother Charlie is trouble with a capital T but in the funniest and sweetest way (for the most part). And Percy's journey from 13 to 30 is a nice development throughout.
I enjoy the multiple timelines and to see Percy and Sam's love for each other grow from meeting the summer they turn 13. This story is both heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time.
SPOILER: DON'T READ FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT ANYTHING SPOILED!!!
I was ready to give this book at least a 3.5 ⭐ until the cheating with the brother. Of course it was a one time regrettable mistake, but I am auto out on a cheating trope. And making it with his brother just sets the relationship up for failure no matter how many promises of forgiveness. But that's just my opinion. So be warned.

Such a good read
Format: Paperback
This is the absolute cutest book. I’ve read in a very long time! If you were someone growing up in the early mid 2000s, you are going to love this book, it hits all the nostalgic spots, and it makes you really think about your childhood again… I give it a 10 out of 10 highly recommend it super cute read. I read it in like five days between work and other things I had to get done.

Eric Metaxas’s Revolution: The Birth of the Greatest Nation in the History of the World presents the American founding as far more than a political dispute over taxes or power—it is portrayed as an epic struggle between liberty and tyranny, virtue and corruption, good and evil. Through vivid storytelling and rich historical detail, Metaxas casts the Revolutionary era as a moral drama in which ordinary men were called to extraordinary courage against overwhelming odds in their fight for freedom. The book compellingly shows how patriots like Samuel Adams, Patrick Henry, John Adams, Abigail Adams, Benjamin Rush, James Otis, Henry Knox, Paul Revere, John Hancock, Thomas Paine, George Washington, Martha Washington, and others, understood the conflict not merely as resistance to British overreach, but as a defense of God-given liberty against arbitrary, and often brutal, power.

A New Classic
Format: Kindle
I pre-ordered, so I was able to get the PDF and start reading early. Of all the books I own on the American Revolution, I think this one stands to become my "go to." It is encyclopedic in scope, but deftly avoids becoming a drudgery or a slog through a mire of textbook facts. Somehow, Eric has managed to include a great deal of detail without losing any of the drama. It’s the story that rises to the fore in a gripping tale that just happens to be true (and much more than that, is our heritage). All the trademark “Metaxas” hallmarks are here: judiciously placed humor and lightheartedness that never descends into silliness, seriousness that somehow never lacks in winsomeness, depth that never smothers. He manages to portray both the soberness that the subject deserves without losing the hopefulness that the story of the Revolution should inspire in us. And along the way, you’ll find yourself better understanding what “went down” and (just as importantly) what it means to you today. Excellent work. If you think another history book on the American Revolution cannot inspire you or keep your attention, this one is up to the challenge.
