With the arrival of the railway in 1864 in Nice it would increase the number of Winter visitors seeking a milder Winter climate. In the mid nineteenth Century the first Palace hotels began to appear on the Promenade des Anglais, including the Hotel de Rome, Hotel des Anglais and the Hotel de Luxembourg. The

The hotel was demolished in the 1970's and a new apartment building called "Royal Luxembourg" opened in its place.
