Premature babies haven't been in the tummy long enough to develop the protective layer of fat underneath their skin, as with most full-term babies, meaning they can have more difficulty maintaining their body heat. Wool's temperature-regulating properties provide warmth, yet the natural fibers breathe, to maintain a comfortable temperature against baby's skin. Silk adds extra softness.
And wool's moisture-absorbing and self-cleansing properties allow for extended use between washings.

To maintain the health and longevity of your garments, organic wool is best washed by hand. Many modern woolen items are treated with chemicals to allow them to tolerate machine-washing. Certified organic wool does not contain such chemicals. Some washing machines have a special wool-cycle, which maintains a lukewarm water temperature throughout the wash and rinse cycle, as well as minimizing agitation of the garment, which can lead to felting/shrinking. We recommend washing with fragrance-free LANACare Soap, specially formulated for wool.
LANACare Lanolin Soap contains 7.5%lanolin. The higher lanolin content prolongs the needs for washing and adds softness to your woolens.
