Description:
The past is a foreign country - this is your guide, from the bestselling author of The Time Traveller's Guide to Medieval England

We think of Queen Elizabeth I's reign (1558-1603) as a golden age. But what was it actually like to live in Elizabethan England? If you could travel to the past and walk the streets of London in the 1590s, where would you stay? What would you eat? What would you wear? Would you really have a sense of it being a glorious age? And if so, how would that glory sit alongside the vagrants, diseases, violence, sexism and famine of the time?

In this book Ian Mortimer reveals a country in which life expectancy is in the early thirties, people still starve to death and Catholics are persecuted for their faith. Yet it produces some of the finest writing in the English language, some of the most magnificent architecture, and sees Elizabeth's subjects settle in America and circumnavigate the globe. Welcome to a country that is, in all its contradictions, the very crucible of the modern world.

'Vivid trip back to the 16th century...highly entertaining book' Guardian

SOLID unit and woth the price!
I can't speak for anyone but me, but this is my opinion of this product. I travel a lot. I recently went on a trip to the Mediterranean, (Italy, Spain, France), and needed a new adapter. I'm a computer engineer so I needed something that could handle a MacBook Pro, A windows gaming laptop, Bluetooth headphones, an iPad and 2 phones, (all at the same time). This handled all that with no issues. This would have earned it 4 stars because it's supposed to handle multiple items. The extra star is the fact that it is heavy enough to stay where you place it, has a good cord length, and a nice plug selection. Mine was the 2 prong (Mediterranean)base prong with a U.S 2 prong and a 3 prong version for England, Ireland ETC. The U.S and Brit version fit together like Legos and both fit snugly on the Med prongs. I have used the Med version for 14 constant days with no issues or heating problems. I'm on day 4 in the states and no issues. I can't speak on the Brit adapter yet, but I see no reason this would change. It also has a USB-C slot, in addition to 4 USB slots and the 3 pronged slots for laptops ETC. Please keep in mind, that this is JUST an adapter, it does NOT convert voltages. It's not supposed to.
