Jahnah Camille - My Sunny Oath! - BlueFor Jahnah Camille, there was never a backup plan. Overhearing her father's guitar lessons, she first picked up the instrument at four years old. By age ten, she was writing her own songs. Opportunities to open for artists like Clairo and Soccer Mommy led to Jahnah's burgeoning status as a keenly self examining indie rocker in the Birmingham scene, otherwise saturated with punk and hardcore bands, with whom she played many of her early DIY shows

For Jahnah Camille, there was never a backup plan. Overhearing her father's guitar lessons, she first picked up the instrument at four years old. By age ten, she was writing her own songs. Opportunities to open for artists like Clairo and Soccer Mommy led to Jahnah's burgeoning status as a keenly self-examining indie rocker in the Birmingham scene, otherwise saturated with punk and hardcore bands, with whom she played many of her early DIY shows alongside. Set in the pressure cooker of fresh adulthood, Camille's defiant new EP My sunny oath! Pairs the 20-year-old artist (pronounced "Hannah") with producer Alex Farrar (Wednesday, Indigo de Souza, MJ Lenderman). A guitar-based grab at self-acceptance, Camille's latest EP romps through alt-rock, lo-fi grit, and sardonic grunge with unflinching momentum. The six-song statement channels Jahnah's era-agnostic songwriting influences, from The Sundays and Liz Phair to Minnie Riperton and Japanese Breakfast. Her second release with label home Winspear (Slow Pulp, Barrie, Wishy), the new collection follows Jahnah's 2024 EP, i tried to freeze light, but only remember a girl. She wrote most of My sunny oath! #before a breakout year, including tours opening for Luna LI, Tops, and Blondshell. Set in stormy self-development, My sunny oath! Pushes through the muck of outgrown relationships, misogyny, and hometown anxiety. "The first year after I graduated high school was kind of horrifying," says Jahnah. "I had just basically broken up with most of my band. I wasn't going to college. I was seeing how everyone else that I had known growing up, their lives were changing. I knew that whatever happened in my life, it wasn't going to be that, and there wasn't really any proof that things were going in a positive direction." Wheels began turning as she drove from Alabama to Asheville, North Carolina last summer to record at Alex's Drop of Sun Studios. There, the duo envisioned an immersive, lyrically-focused direction for the new material. Dreamily layered vocals, modern shoegaze sheen, and keyboard lines accompany Jahnah's ear-worm guitar riffs and coyly detached tone. Those sounds arose from loose and experimental sessions where Alex and Jahnah dove deep on influences, from Kitty Craft to Fiona Apple, and honed in on sounds to accompany the singer's prodding lyrics and cathartic tell-offs. "Alex and I talked a lot about music that we like," says Jahnah. "I feel like he understood who I am as a listener and the type of shows that I go to. The songs lend themselves to that sound." Throughout her life, supportive coincidences have pushed Jahnah's creative tenacity. Her mother encouraged an elementary-aged Jahnah to perform for their apartment's maintenance man, who then gifted her a red Gibson SG and amplifier. At a hippie kids camp, she met a mentor who helped to champion her early crowdfunded recordings. These threads connect on EP opener "close to heaven," which Jahnah began writing at age 15. The final edition merges past and present: snarling guitars carry over from her upbringing in Birmingham's hardcore scene, while soft piano nods to a current obsession with Elliott Smith. "My mom was always having me sing and play guitar for people," says Jahnah. "I've always had people who believed in me, and I feel like I've internalized that. That's been really beautiful." After returning home from a busy year of touring, she learned to balance the intensity of live performance with her long-established solitary songwriting practice. While creating the EP, she moved out of her childhood home and literally found her voice, overcoming a fear of being overheard singing by her roommates.

The dogs like it very much, it produces a lot of noise.
Size: Large, Size: Large
I’m rating this based on my dogs’ response to this toy – they absolutely love it, and it has seen more use without damage than any of their regular throwing toys. At the same time, unless you enjoy, REALLY ENJOY the sound of crunching water bottles, you may not like having this ball in the house. Pros: The rubber outer shell of the ball is durable, and can survive both chewing and pulling forces (as a note, my dogs do not concentrate on chewing - they use it more for play games). It’s big enough for my dogs to play tug of war with it, hooking their teeth in the mesh, and they since it bounces around if they drop or kick it, it makes the game more interesting than rope. They did crush the interior plastic, but they don't really seem to care. It’s much more engaging than a normal ball, and can be modified to hold treats, sticks, rope elements and other external bits, which my shepherd mix loves; he gets bored easily and frequently, and this can actually entertain him. Cons: This toy is loud, and produces repetitive crunching sounds. It is apparently really engaging to chew, and my dogs will produce the horrid plastic crackling up to half an hour at a time. If you let your dogs in and out, it would make a fine outdoor toy, but since I have a dog door, it migrates around to pretty much wherever the dogs are. I kind of hate it, but will probably buy another if they break this one since they enjoy it so much.

Very durable and my Heeler's fave inside toy
Size: Large
My red Heeler loves these balls, second only to Tennis balls but she destroys those within minutes and they are outside only. This is her inside ball. She is hard on toys and has the strongest bite of any dog I've had (shepherds, collies, weimaraners, retrievers, Labs) yet these continue to last. She catches the ball, we play tug of war with it (she places it in hand hand and pulls only when I have a firm grip, she shakes it and flings it. The rubber outside even outlasts the water-bottle like plastic piece inside. Steps holds the ball with her foot and pulls on the rubber with her mouth, stretching it to sometimes twice its size. I pull while shes pulling. This thing gets abused daily and keeps on going. Its the most used toy and she brings it to me to play with every day. Each ball lasts about 6 months before the inside ball is toast and the outer rubber is finally starting to tear/break. which for me in an incredibly long time. If this ball is available to play, she wants it over all others. Shes NEVER gotten a piece off to actually swallow and that alone is worth the price.

Great ball but easily broken
Size: Large
I got this ball for my two dogs, one is a 90 pound yellow lab mix and the other 45 pound black lab mix. So far only my bigger dog has played with it and has also busted it. He was playing with it for probably half an hour just chomping down to make it crinkle and crunch. It's quite the loud ball!! I noticed the sound wasn't as loud so I took a peek and noticed my dog basically crushed the inner ball into a much smaller ball. He's still having a good time with it though. It's only a matter of time though that he's going to chew the outer shell because it doesn't make noise like it did.
