Description:
In the thirdQuarterly Essay, Guy Rundle comes to grips with John Howard, the prime minister who, on the eve of an election, seems to have turned round his political fortunes by spurning refugees and writing blank cheques for America's War on Terror.
This is a brilliant account of John Howard's dominant ideas, his concerted 'dreaming' with its emphasis on unity and national identity that reveals him to be the most reactionary PM we have ever had, the only political leader who would allow ideas like those of One Nation to dominate the mainstream of Australian politics in order to improve his political chances. Rundle puts Howard in the context of the economic liberalism he shares with his colleagues and opponents and the conservative social ideology that sets him apart. It is a complex portrait in a radical mirror which relates John Howard to everything from Menzies's 'forgotten people' to the inadvertent glamour of the government's antidrug advertising. It is also a plea for right-thinking people of every political persuasion to resist the call to prejudice and reaction.
'A portrait of a political opportunist who is also ... a sincere reactionary- putting back the clock because he believes in it, but also fanning the whirlwind of unreason in order to save his political skin.' -Peter Craven, Introduction
'The coincident occurrence of the asylum seeker confrontation and the attack on the U.S. has made visible the most dangerous and damaging thing he has done to the Australian polity...and that is to deepen contempt for such protection as we did have from unbridled executive power, mass hysteria, the rush to surrender our

UGH SO GOOD!!!
Format: Paperback
Such a good book! The way the story is written and how the characters are portrayed leaves you wanting more! A tad bit of a slow burn but so so good and worth the wait! Personally I bought both the book and audio book because I couldn't put it down! This book had me (A man) kicking my feet like a little girl and holding back tears throughout the story. I just love love and this story is just so beautifully written!

Slow burn with a sprinkle of fantasy.
Format: Kindle
It was alright. Written well. Story was decent. But it just lacked something. It's the slowest burn I've ever read, which is fine. I felt like the knight (main character) was kind of weak and whiney… And I expected the strength of a knight! The first chapter is filled with a lot of background information, but then it's like the story doesn't really reference it again. I would have liked a bit more information that first chapter before just heading right into the story in chapter 2. Things could have been explained more in general. There could have been a lot more detail and explanation abiut the fantasy side of the book. It was just like a straight romance with a sprinkle of fantasy. Overall, it was decent, but I probably wouldn't recommend it to someone unless they asked specifically for a slow burn with a little bit of fantasy. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

A Forbidden Romance With Teeth
Format: Paperback
First off: I loved the couple. Della, our acting princess, and her sharp wit and determination to survive were a refreshing change from the damsel type princess. Galeon was a woman of honour and yet so head over heels with the fake princess that she can't keep away. Birch does a great job of building a magical world and drawing you into it so that you kept turning pages until the end. And that page-turning was also spurred by the slow burn will-they-won't-they romance between the heroines who had much to lose if they crossed the line. I've purchased all three novels and will review Her Blushing Hero just as soon as I've finished.

AMAZINGGGGG
Format: Kindle
My first sapphic read and i think I’ll forever be attached to her writing! Already finished the consecutive two books in the series and I’m back to rereading them all! Such a great author to draw up such vivid pictures through words, especially the spicy parts! Great slow burn, so much action and lesbians are normalized in this world??? I loveeee it! Thank you Ms. Mariah for giving your readers a beautiful place to escape! Can hardly wait for spring when she releases the 4th book 😍

Toxic fumes!
Format: Hardcover
Be careful! Book stank, even after a few days with fumes that felt toxic and probably were. Returned
