Description:
A young academic moves from India to the United States, where she navigates first love, a green card marriage, single motherhood, and more in this “delightful novel, written with immediacy, warmth, and wry humor” (Ha Jin, National Book Award–winning author of Waiting).
Vega Gopalan is adrift. Still reeling from the death of her sister years earlier, she leaves South India to attend graduate school at Columbia University. In New York, Vega straddles many different worlds, eventually moving in and out of a series of relationships that take her through the striving world of academia, the intellectual isolation of the immigrant suburbs, and, ultimately, the loneliness of single motherhood. But it is the birth of Vega’s daughter that forces the novel’s central question: What does it mean to make a home?
Written with dry humor and searing insight, Habitations is an “irresistible debut” (Deesha Philyaw, author of The Secret Lives of Church Ladies) about identity, immigration, expectation, desire, and love lost and found. But it is also a universal story of womanhood, and the ways in which women are forced to navigate multiple loyalties: to family, to community, and to themselves.
A “sweeping, immersive, and utterly perfect” (Weike Wang, author of Chemistry) meditation on the many meanings of home and on the ways love and kinship can be found, even in the most unfamiliar of places, Habitations introduces Sheila Sundar as an electrifying new voice in literary fiction.

A Must Read For Senior Sapphic Women
Format: Paperback
This is one of the best books for older sapphic women that I've ever read. It is so refreshing to not only have books for gay women but even better to have them for the "gray hair" crowd. Grayhall is a wonderful writer that keeps you spellbound. Three cheers for her.

Kudos for A Place for Us!
Format: Kindle
A contemporary love story that doesn’t disappoint . We cheer on Jo and Lauren as they tackle the ups and downs, challenges and risks that come with any love affair. But this one is a special test to the two women’s commitment to each other, as society’s laws and opinions are the biggest hurdles they must face. Enmeshed in their current dysfunctional relationships with other people, Jo and Lauren are determined to have a second go at the true love they both had years ago, but that slipped away. Grayhall does a great job at ramping it up in the final chapters for an ending that truly delivers.

A Place for Us
Format: Kindle
Oh! 15 gold stars for this one! This book is so poignant and so very brave and authentic! This book is a permission for us to choose what we will and will not accept in our relationships. This book is more than hope, this book is determination! Pure driven determination to not settle, but to go to the mat to have our life the way we want we want it. I cannot over recommend this book. Thank you, Patricia Grayhall! Keep writing!

Finding a Home
Format: Paperback
A Place for us is a beautifully crafted and deeply moving love story about two women--one American, one British--who first meet in their youth and reconnect decades later. At its core, the novel portrays their struggle to navigate restrictive immigration laws in pursuit of a life together. Their journey highlights the urgent need to protect and legalize same-sex marriage, especially at a time when such rights feel increasingly precarious. A timely and relevant read.
