HAMADAN

Details:

Hamadans are hand-knotted on a vertical loom using a cotton warp and weft.  Usually the weft is a single thread and the pile is of good quality wool sometimes mixed with camel hair, which is clipped medium to medium/long.  These carpets use the Turkish knot with a density varying between 30 and 100 knots to the square inch.  Almost all Hamadans have a fringe on one side while the opposite side terminates in a narrow selvedge.  They are made in a wide range of sizes, though very large items are rare.

 Description:

The majority of carpets known as Hamadan come from around fifty villages scattered over an area some sixty miles around the city.  They possess a certain primitive charm and village authenticity, which is often the focal point of collectable appeal.  The materials, by contrast, are of a very good quality.  The different Hamadan areas are often called, improperly, Mosul, perhaps because it was to this city that carpets made in western Persia were sent for onward transmission to Constantinople.  The best-known carpets of the Hamadan group are Borchelu and Khamseh.  The first are carpets woven in the villages found to the east of Hamadan.  The field is typically a red background decorated with herati motifs, which are diamond-shaped geometric forms with floral heads both inside and surrounding.  Often, too, there is a central medallion, sometimes floral and sometimes geometric, on an ivory background.  The four corners repeat the central medallion pattern.  The border is the classic one of three bands; the two guards have rosettes joined by a snake-like decoration and the central one repeats the decorative motifs of the field.

Khamseh is a region situated to the north of Hamadan and Khamseh carpets are among the best of the region.  Their decoration has a central medallion in geometric form.  These examples have four quarters at the sides, which are triangular and are decorated with the same motifs as the central medallion.  Three bands with various decorations and very stylized designs form the border.

Each village has its own distinct variations, but there are a few overall characteristics that unify them into one relatively cohesive group.  The Hamadan palette is dominated by reds, blues and whites, with greens, gold and yellow ochres as subsidiary hues; the design repertoire is based on geometric medallion-and-corner, herati and boteh schemes, and those which employ detached floral sprays in an allover fashion, similar to those employed in the nearby village of Sarough.  They also make frequent use of herati and boteh schemes, the latter of which are stylized leaf-like floral symbols that appear similar to a Paisley pattern.

Price Range and Value:

LOW TO MEDIUM/HIGH

The overall investment potential of Hamadans has tended to be rather low, but the finer examples - in particular older Borchelus - have always been collectable.

Duck-time is play-time! Exactly what a dog toy should be!
Duck hunting for your living-room princess-pal best buddy goodest puppy in the world! Every dog deserves a chance to be a heroic duck hunting hero! This dog toy is a favorite of my pup. Duck-time is play time! This duck is made with several fabulous textures. There's a ropey texture around the neck, a burlap type texture for the body and head, and a felt-like texture for the bill and feet. My dog immediately tore the feet off! He always removes any hanging bits from all toys, so that's not a comment to the detriment of this product. He's working on the wings, now. My dog likes to chase this toy when I throw it or play tug-of-war with it, or is willing to sit and chomp on it by himself for a while. The rope is intact, still! This is exactly what a dog toy should be! Give your little buddy a hunting trophy!

Speaker broken
This toy is advertised as having a squeaker, but the one we had was defective and did not make any noise. Our dog still throughly enjoyed ripping this little duck to shreds through. The material was thicker than I was expecting but still only took our dog about 5 mins to completely destroy it (Golden retriever). I understand that this toy is marketed as for small dogs so I get that, but took away three starts because our came with the broken squeaker and for $10, you can find a lot better toys at TJ Max. This item is not a good value for our experience.

Durable duck toy for man’s best friend
Although it was suggested that this toy would be best for small breeds, I found that it’s durable enough for my 80 pound Irish setter! It has literally become his best friend. He takes it everywhere he goes! There’s a small squeaky noise that comes from the neck area that he has to work to find. I’m sure he will eventually destroy this as he has with all his other toys, but it’s really holding up much better than anticipated. It is well worth the $10 cost.

Really cute, well made dog toy. Was a huge hit with our pup
This toy was a big hit! Pros - love the heavy duty burlap-kinda fabric. Our new puppy has razor sharp teeth but this fabric is holding up really well. - size is great for a variety of breeds - shape is perfect for grabbing onto. Our puppy especially likes picking it up on the neck where the toy is more slender - the extra little feet and wing flaps add some interest that have really kept her occupied Cons - the squeaker is in the neck where the fabric has embellishments and is a little thicker. It's a little hard to activate the squeaker but maybe the toy/stuffing needs to get broken in more and then it will be easier to squeeze that section

A must have for active dogs
Size: Max Size, Size: Max Size
I normally do not write reviews unless a product is really good or really bad. I have a dog that thinks chasing balls is the only thing in life and unfortunately she has a mom that has anchor pins in both shoulders. We've been using this ball launcher for little over a year. It goes through about 32 dirty balls, 3 times a day and has held up amazingly. It is even full of dirt and still keeps on working, it looks like R2D2 went thru a battle. 😆 I recently bought a second one as a back up because I can't believe this poor thing hasn't given up yet. I rotate the balls because my dog brings them back wet and muddy, then they won't launch as far, so I knock some dirt off of a dry one and launch it. I would highly recommend this for active dogs.
